What is a Phase I study?A Phase I study is the first stage that a drug is tested in humans and is most concerned with assessing the drug's safety. In most cases, these studies are conducted with 20 to 100 healthy volunteers. The goal of most Phase I studies is to determine safety and tolerability. This is done by studying how the human body absorbs, distributes, metabolizes, and excretes the drug and investigating all side effects at various dosage levels.
